He Will Never Forget Them
The Lord is working with us. On Saturday morning, we went to go see one of our new friends. Oh sweet Juliana. It was the first planned out lesson we were going to teach her. We felt like we should teach the Plan of Salvation. It was a chaotic lesson, her son was all over the place, she was up & down, but the spirit came still as we spoke of those doctrinal truths. She had lots of great questions which led her to understand more. We taught using the scriptures & one of the verses spoke of baptism. She went on to explain that that was her favorite part of all the verses. We explained how we baptize with the authority of God, & she wants to be baptized!! & so we will be preparing her for that day which will change her life forever.
As we went on with our day, lots of people weren't home or just simply didn't have time to let us in. Until we passed by a dear friend of ours named Yamila. We have been passing by quite a bit for the past month. She works a lot so it's been hard to find her, but when we do, we feel something special with her. She has always been so happy to see us with such a desire to learn more. So we went, & we stood & talked at the door. We were just going to invite her to come to church & to the baptism we are having this weekend. Once we invited her to come to the baptism, she said, "how do you do baptism?" I reached into my bag to show her a picture of Jesus getting baptized but quickly felt the impression to show her the video of His baptism instead. She let us in & we watched that video. She stared with a smile the whole time. Right as the video finished, she looked up at us & she said, "I want to do that, I really want to." She told us she could get work off that next Saturday for like 2 hours to come & get baptized that next week. We told her how it works & how there's still things we need to teach her & how she needs to come to church. & we agreed on a date!! Yamila is getting baptized. She was overjoyed & just kept telling us, over & over, just how much she really wants to get baptized. We are so happy for her.
I got to do exchanges with Hermana Lopez!!! My sweet dear companion from Villa Mitre. The most unique time of my mission. The time was fast with her, but just so special. So when I got to be with her again, I was so excited. She is finishing her mission & so it could possibly be the last time we see each other for a while. We had the sweetest lesson with Melody together. We taught her of the Doctrine of Christ. She is so smart. The cutest little 9 year old with so much faith. Hermana Lopez was explaining how we endure to the end & shared an analogy of a mountain. How Jesus Christ is waiting for us at the top of a mountain & we are all on a trek up to Him. We have some big steps to make on this mountain & sometimes we may fall back but we just have to keep pushing to Jesus. We finished that lesson with her & I just felt like I wanted to stay, right there. Just so happy, so much of the spirit. It was another special day with Hermana Lopez.
We met an older man & went to go visit him. Taught him the Restoration & he cried as we shared the first vision. He was so shocked by it. Then he came to church on Sunday, but just gave the Book of Mormon back to one of the members & told them he already had one & left. So we went back to his house & he literally just already had one & didn't come in because he got pulled away to his other church by his pastor.
Had a lesson with an 80 year old friend of one of the members. She came to church last week & so we went to go visit her. She told us her whole life story. We got really good at listening. Were able to share a quick message & then said the prayer. She started to cry because of the prayer. It was sweet. She felt peace in her heart.
My heart is so full of gratitude. I am so happy. This experience is so hard, but so good & so rewarding. I have been thinking often about my testimony & where it was & how far it has come. I was reading a talk from this past conference that stood out to me. In this talk, it talked about parents to their children. I am so grateful for my parents. They always stood tall in their testimonies & even though I was not always living in the way that I should have, I thank them for who I am today. "You are doing much better than you think. Just keep working at it. Your children are watching, listening, and learning. They may forget the Savior for a season, but I promise you He will never forget them! Those moments when the Holy Ghost speaks to them will persist in their hearts and minds. And one day your children will echo the testimony of Enos: I know my parents are just, “for [they] taught me … in the nurture and admonition of the Lord—and blessed be the name of my God for it.”
So remember Jesus. Don't lose sight of Him. He loves you & will never stop.
As do I, love you. I pray for you.
With all my heart,
